Last year's 27th Sponsored Walk

Our most grateful thanks must go to the 'Friends' of BCU, Chas and Berni Roberts, for their organisation of the event. Without their enthusiasm and commitment, the walk would not have been able to take place. £2,400 was raised with gift aid to be added.

The Mayor of Bexley, Councillor James Hunt, Sir David Evennett, MP/Privy Councillor and The Chair of BCU, Trish Giles, all gave short speeches of support and thanks were given to Reverend Adam Foot for supporting us with the hall hire for the registration of the walkers. This year 20 of our supporters walked all or part of the southern route, through Sidcup and Old Bexley. Our thanks go to the lovely helpers who made drinks at the Holy Redeemer Church, Days Lane and United Reformed Church, Bexley. The Walk ended with refreshments at URC Bexley this year, due to Pincott Hall, Christchurch undergoing renovations. The weather was perfect for walking and we were happy to see some new faces.

As you are no doubt aware, the Centre, along with many local voluntary organisations, is struggling financially but we are optimistic that the Centre will be able to continue providing services to our local community. We are fortunate to still have some funding from the Trust for London but are working hard to find other funding providers. We are, of course, extremely grateful to all of our supporters who have also made donations this year and we will continue to make applications to grant makers to support our work.

The Centre has received a £10,000 grant from the National Lottery, Awards for All, for our Warm Spaces Project, which takes place on Fridays from 10-1pm, offering listening, counselling and refreshments.
